Rear Disk Brakes on Early P1800

On Alan Peterson's letter ["Brakes - Disks or Drums?"]: I have converted a '66 P1800 to 4-wheel disk brakes. The entire braking system was adapted to this car using a '70 P1800 donor. It stops noticeably better. The entire rear end bolts on without adaptation. The drive shaft is a bit of a trick, as a center mount must be fabricated if you want to go with the later shaft (it is much beefier) . Of course this would be an excellent time to switch to a later overdrive, as it matches the drive shaft. In my conversion, the donor transmission was an M410, which was very noisy and did not seem to fit properly. A '74 M41 and cable bell housing was also installed. Needless to say, this is a somewhat involved conversion, but certainly not rocket science.

Regarding the reference to Nisonger instrument, their rebuilds come back looking like new. Unfortunately, they have rebuilt my oil/water temperature gauge on three occasions, with the longest-lasting repair being about one month. Hopefully this was not typical , but I was charged $140 twice, and my gauge still doesn't work.
