Glenn,

Am sure you noticed the master cylinder. This is a bolt-in replacement (mates to firewall), that is, you install with boot off and place boot on from inside cockpit. It is a Wildwood unit, 1-inch bore. I decided a year ago to remove the power assist and dual-circuit master cylinder. I also may install this weekend the brake proportioning valve by Wildwood for rear brakes. It looks like it will mount nicely to the master cylinder's hump. The gentelman at Volvo World says he has done this mod (removing power servo unit) and it works o.k. I am also hoping with the 1-inch bore (O.E.M. was 7/8 inch), pedal effort will be liveable. The master cylinder and proportioning valve can be purchased from Jegs Racing. I believe the master cylinder cost is $49.00, proportioning valve, $50.00. The master cylinder comes with 3 reservoirs, 1 large, 1 small, 1 remote mount. it should be noted it that only the small reservoir will clear hood assuming my measurements are correct. Also remember that the bigger the bore size the taller the unit. It is also offered in 1-1/8 inch bore. I believe the brake circuit will be more reliable while giving up 2 circuits. Later. Doug.

Doug - Thanks for the additional photos. What did you make the shock tower reinforcement plates out of? -Glenn.

6061-T6 aircraft aluminum, 3/8 in. thick. I really did not want to weld on the main crossmember. The plates are attached with 180,000 psi grade 8 Allen bolts 10-32. I have the original sticker to the car. I bought it from a family friend who had bought it new in 1968. He was the only owner and I purchased it from him in 1999. The sticker price was $4,250.00. It was purchased from a Jaguar dealer in Cleveland, Ohio. The color is ice blue. I am enjoying restoring this car close to its original condition. Doug.

Glenn, I made a mistake on the prices for the Wildwood master cylinder. The master part number is 950-260-3378, price $62.99. the proportioning valve, also Wildwood p/n 950-260-220 $39.99 from Jegs, phone number 1-800-345-4545. I now have replaced my clutch master cylinder with same unit. I was even able to use the 7/16-inch to 3/8-inch flare adapter off of old clutch master cylinder! After installing heater, I realized the hood arch is very high near firewall and I would have the room to use the same master cylinder. Will send photo soon. Doug

Glenn, I found the cheapest price for front rotors; it's from Volvo, $175.00 ea. I ordered through my local Volvo dealership, p/n 666525, and with no shipping charge (they weigh 37 lbs). It's the way to go! I also painted them (hub and rotor edge inside and out). Doug.
